A Few More from Jason Hewlett's Show in Sept

Thought it would be fun to post a few more images from my Jason Hewlett photo shoot from back in Sept. Now that they are finished.... mostly.... and before this friday when I do it again. These shots are in no order and skip back and forth in the concert, I just wanted to post what I have been working on.

This chap was the opening act, fun pianist, he was hard to photograph with a white hat and dark shirt. I found that I had to loose a lot of detail in the hat to overexposure to get decent light on his hat. The only shot I included was a tough shot in fairly dim light. I just loved the angle and the mood. Taken with Cosmicar 70-200 f4 and on a tripod.

Loved the pose and the emotion.

I think the stage is actually tilted, now sure how I let that get through.....

Sunday Trip to Temple Square

Had a church meeting downtown at the Conference Center at Temple Square. As I ALWAYS do when I am up there, I took the opportunity to take a few pictures. Wife/Girlfriend doesn't allow me to post pictures of the family here, but you do get a few quickies while wandering around the square. I found some new angles I like a lot. All with Pentax K200d and Sigma 17-70.

Color in the Snow

Had yet another slow Friday at work, seems like these are the best days to go take photos. Seeing as I had planned ahead I had my gear and headed up Millcreek Canyon east of Salt Lake City. It had snowed just 36 hours or so before so there was a fair amount of snow in the upper canyon. (Part of the reason I didn't go quite all the way to the top. I don't have 4 wheel drive!)

These shots are placed in the order taken, not by subject. Hope you enjoy viewing them cuz I suffered taking them, it was COLD!!!!!

What I have been doing Recently

More on this later, but a friend of mine offered me a great opportunity. The opportunity to undertake my first professional photo shoot. He is a celebrity impersonator/comedian/singer/really funny dude! Anyway, these are a few of the multitudinous shots I took that I have processed so far. REALLY had a great time. Can't wait to play with more of them.

Manti Temple

Just wanted to post these here, though the side view one is going on my Zenfolio for purchase, so I have made the click throughs a lot smaller than usual. These were taken the same morning as the photo's in Spring city. My youth was filled with trips to Manti and I loved seeing this temple as we pulled in to town. I fear I haven't done it justice, but I hope it looks decent!

Spring City Utah

Spent some time in Spring City, UT an older town in Sanpete County that is being somewhat revitalized as an artistic community. It is located a few miles off of US 89 and thus receives little car traffic. As I drove through a few things caught my eye, some of them even turned out nicely. I experimented with using the Black and White setting on my camera, with the IR filter setting. (Not a true IR but pseudo via computer processing) I think it gives me an interesting look.

All these were taken with my Cosmicar 70-200 f4 and K200d.

I liked the juxtaposition of newer technology intruding on the older building materials.

The faded paint on the side of this building drew me to stop, I dearly love old painted buildings.

Temple Square Early Morning (Stop 2, first with photos's worth posting!)

OK, here comes something fun, so get a good firm hold on your socks!

I decided to undertake a self imposed project/opportunity to go on Photo Safari. I gave myself 24 to 36 hours to take a minimum of 12 good photos (12-24-36 get the progression?) Not just OK, but GOOD photos. Now as you look at this and subsequent posts you will find that there are more than 12 Photos, well, I haven't decided on my top 12 yet. What I have done here is post the best of what I got. I will then spend some time deciding which ones I like best and then get back to you. Or you can vote if you want, I would love that!

So anyway I took a couple of days off of work, and started planning. Best areas for good shots and interesting places I haven't been in a while etc... and I ended up with an itinerary that looked like this:

1) Masonic Temple, Salt Lake City, UT Simply because I have never photographed it, and I thought it would be interesting, having worked next door for a year once upon a time. (Alas I got nothing good there. zip. NADA. Zilch.)

2) Temple Square, Salt Lake City, UT Because I will never pass up an opportunity to take pictures there.

3) Streets between my buddy's house (Where I parked my Truck) and the Frontrunner station, basically through the Gateway shopping area in SLC.

4) Ogden Union Station, Ogden, UT Trains, Classic Cars, Guns.... What more could a guy want?

5) Tour of Utah Prologue @ The Utah State Capitol Building, Salt Lake City, UT a chance to meet up with some other Pentax users and play with sports type shooting.

6) Uinta Mountains at night for Star Trails been wanting to forever, didn't happen due to exhaustion and cloud cover.

7) Next day, Tour of Utah 1st stage cuz I wanted to!

Yeah, I was a little overscheduled but I really wanted to immerse myself in photography for a day. I hope you the viewer will like what I got, and maybe even let me know which ones you think are really good. Now, On with the show!!

Reflecting Pool and the Salt Lake Temple, I used my 30+ year old Pentax 28mm f3.5 Manual Focus lens for this shot. I think the color rendering is just superb with this lens.
